Dull day and a bright night!

As usual, I spent several hours researching, imagining and planning my photography trip (to Jasper- Steel creek campground). The place's is two hours drive far but i hardly get time to go out these days. So I was desparate to get some sort of output from this trip. Thankfully my friend had accepted my proposal of shooting a nightscape.

We arrived an hour before sunset to scout for the main shot location. The evening was pretty dull but we still managed to get some shots.
Later we took a leisurely break before it went completely dark. Usually they say couple of hours after sunset. My friend had got couple of chairs and the home made dinner under the starlit sky was memorable. A group of campers asked "what are you guys doing?" Of course, it was weird that two Indian guys on chairs by the car, just sitting there, doing nothing". We asked for bug repellents ang they were glad to help! The next task was to go back to the creek by crossing a 5 minute trek into the woods. I must confess I was really chicken to do that. :p even that short walk under the dense trees was freaking me out. Nevertheless we made it and were surprised that there were couple of photographers already. We probably ruined some of their shots inadvertently. :(

We started shooting but then we had lot of issues. My intervalometer didn't work and my friend's camera refused to focus properly. I struggled a lot and finally gave up the idea of doing a star trail. I started with lot of blurry photos. Trust me it's a lot of patience to get the focus right. Here's one of those.
Time was ticking and we had to go back. I pleaded my friend for extra 30 minutes and shot multiple frames for panorama.
And yay, after a lot of hard work, permutations/combinations/mathematics/editing/adjustments, I came up with one of my best astrophotography shot so far.

We packed up and drove back at midnight, and there was our last surprise, fog!! I was tense but fun drive back to home.
All is well that ends well :)
I hope you enjoyed the pic(s)😀

  1. I haven't tried astro yet, don't have any lenses with small enough coma to get those point sharp stars either :(...

But don't stars drift? If you're doing a pano + stacking (well, I assume...) how do you end up with everything in the correct position?

    1. The lens isn't too costly, you can get one with 300 bucks.
Yes, stars drift ( you geek! ). But the alignment of stars, it's not my headache. PS does it for you! :)

    2. Yeah, astro is something that I might explore eventually, I've looked into it a few times and might pick up a decent manual wideangle (since the native lenses aren't well suited for astro). I've read a few that can be bought rather decently.
